BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - Hereford                              

Making all the difference for people with disabilities in Herefordshire, you will actively create a Social Firm to generate employment opportunities.

As an experienced entrepreneur, an influencer and negotiator, you will be fully versed in the disciplines and rigours of launching and operating successful businesses as you ensure that this new enterprise is both commercially viable and self-sustaining,

Above all, you’re a natural leader and born organiser, with excellent financial management abilities and great relationship building skills, plus a deep commitment to the ethos of Social Firms.

This will involve overseeing every aspect of the business including planning, negotiating contracts, generating income and managing people.

At all times, you will embed sustainability into your thinking and planning, generate significant funding to bring the vision to life whilst offering comprehensive training and induction to empower people to seek and keep jobs.

Job Description

 

Job Title                      Business Development Manager

 

Outline Purpose          To work in partnership with key stakeholders to manage and develop the company as a prosperous and sustainable enterprise that meets its social mission of creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged people.

 

Location                      Hereford

 

Reporting to                Pack-IT Hereford Board of Management

 

Functional Links          Friends of Widemarsh, Social Firms Wales, Pack-IT Group Cardiff, Service Users, Economic Generation team, local and national business support organisations, grant funders.

 

Principal Responsibilities

Business Management

  1. Think strategically
  2. Manage the business planning and review processes including preparing, implementing and reviewing:

    1. An annual Business Plan
    2. A 3-5 year Strategic Plan
    3. A Marketing Plan
  1. Work in partnership with Pack-IT Cardiff, private sector business, other Social Firms and support agencies to develop good practice operational and employment procedures.
  2. Develop and manage the development and business growth of Pack-IT Hereford, in line with strategic, business and marketing plans.
  3. Maintain accountability to the Board of Management and develop communication systems to keep all partners informed of activities.

7.     Attend suitable conferences and training opportunities and promote the Social Firm model as an enterprising solution that tackles economic inactivity and social exclusion.

Financial and Administrative Management

1.     Effectively plan, set, monitor/review budgets, expenditure and cash flow.

2.     Prepare and present accurate financial information for business planning, management meetings and grant applications.

3.     Introduce and maintain efficient and effective business administration systems.

4.     Prepare accurate claims and reports in connection with grant funding.

Operational Management

1.     Think and plan at an operational level.

  1. Introduce, implement and review quality control, operational policies and assurance systems and ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire regulations, Equal Opportunities Policy and the Data Protection Act.

3.     Support the development of new ways of working that can offer support to employees and employers in both supported employment and open labour market job environments.

4.     Implement and maintain social auditing as a management tool.

5.     Work cooperatively and communicate and negotiate effectively at all levels – staff, the Board of Management, potential new business and suppliers.

6.     Introduce, maintain and review effective operational procedures that meet the changing needs of the business.

Staff Management

1.     Create a positive and supportive workplace with a “can do” approach

2.     Manage staff recruitment, contracts of employment and disciplinary procedures in a manner that meets legal requirements and demonstrates a responsible approach to staff care.

3.     Introduce and maintain induction, supervision and staff development systems that are appropriate and effective for staff and business.

4.     Develop, implement and review performance management systems that are appropriate and effective for staff and the business.

5.     Establish and maintain training and development programmes that meet and respond to staff needs as identified in introductory/supervision and performance management monitoring.

6.     Introduce, maintain and review staff involvement in business development, eg team meetings, team planning.

General

1.     To take care of own health and safety within the role, and that of other people who might be affected by your acts or omissions, and to co-operate with a members of the enterprise to enable them to fulfil health and safety obligations.

2.     The post holder must be mindful of the overall aims and objectives of the Pack-IT Group as a Social Firm.

3.     The post holder must respect the confidentiality of employee’s information and carry out all tasks within the spirit and requirements of the enterprise.

Website Revamp

Pack-IT launched their new improved website this month.

Working closely with Terrie Cousins, MD of Swansea-based Chameleon Marketing, the new site has been completely revamped in keeping with the company's current corporate identity.

As well as details about services and the latest news, there's a 'People' page and an additional section on the Contact page where customers and suppliers can book in jobs and deliveries online via pre-determined templates.

Final Report on the Review of the Future Role of the Third Sector in Social and Economic Generation

The final report of the UK Government's Third Sector Review was published on 24th July. The Review, informed by the largest ever government consultation with the third sector, outlines a strategy for the next ten years, building on the growth in size and impact of the sector over the last decade.

Pack-IT is mentioned on page 58 of the report as a Social Firm case study.
